Full Description
Abstract
Industrial and public interest in hydrogen applications has risen strongly, as hydrogen is a low-carbon energy carrier for energy storage, transport and usage in combination with renewable and green energy supply. In Taiwan, the hydrogen fuel cell has been developed and served as the motorcycle power and the stationary backup power. Recently, the Hydrogen Energy Promotion Group of the Ministry of Economic Affairs has proposed the roadmap of technology development for hydrogen applications in 2050, in which the hydrogen energy power generation will account for 9~12% in 2050, and blast furnace hydrogen injection, low-carbon fuel conversion, and steel-chemical cogeneration and other applications will be prompted to be used in steelmaking and ironmaking processes. In this presentation, recent researches on combustion characteristics of hydrogen mixed with natural gas used for industrial heating processes will be firstly reported. The second part of the presentation will focus on the research developments on hydrogen injection for the blast furnace in the ironmaking process. The planning of the test rig consists of a multi-fuel supply, a high-temperature air supply, an injection test section, an empty zone/coal bed chamber, a gas cleaning system, heat exchangers for exhausts cooling, and stack. Simulations on the basic design for the multi-fuel injection in the test section, including pulverized coal, coke oven gas, and hydrogen, will be presented and discussed. Finally, the co-firing of pulverized coal and ammonia in a 300 kW vertical furnace will be presented.
